Muscat - The number of cases handled by the Oman Human Rights Commission (OHRC) in 2023 was 523 and most of them were resolved in cooperation and coordination with concerned parties and institutions, it said in a statement.

The cases involving civil and political rights, economic, social, and cultural rights, and environmental and development rights were 65 while those related to human rights were 458 (involving both citizens and residents.)

OHRC also made field visits to various governorates of the Sultanate of Oman, in addition to visits to the central prison and detention centers.

The committee stressed the royal directives ordered the release of 864 prisoners, both citizens and non-citizens in 2023.

The Omani Human Rights Commission monitored the reports issued by international governmental and non-governmental bodies on the human rights situation in the Sultanate of Oman. It received questionnaires from United Nations special rapporteurs and coordinated with various concerned parties to verify them and then respond to them.
