As many as six clubs took part in the National Junior Table Tennis Championship which began on Thursday at the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex. The championship is being organised and supervised by the Oman Table Tennis Association (OTTA) and the participating clubs are Ibri, Saham, Qurayat, Seeb, Salalah and Al Rustaq. The three-day championship features competitions in teams and singles categories.
The OTTC has completed all the logistics and technical preparations for the tournament. The organising committee held a draw ceremony on Thursday ahead of the competition’s kick off. For the teams competition, the participating teams were divided into one group with a round-robin league format.
In the singles category, 27 players attended the tournament and they were distributed into seven groups. Players taking the top two places will qualify for the knockout stages. The tournament competitions began with the preliminary rounds on Thursday. It will continue on Friday morning while the final round competitions start on Friday evening and continue on Saturday morning.
Masoud al Shaqsi and Mohammed al Jassasi, OTTA board members, were appointed as the tournament supervisors while Khalid al Zaabi as tournament manager. The list of umpires comprised from many international and first division referees.
