Muscat: The National Employment Programme (NEP) held a joint panel discussion with the Middle East College to moot Oman Vision 2040 trends for economic sectors, labour market, and employment.
The session aimed to bridge the gap between academic knowledge and contemporary workplace trends, ensuring alignment with the future demands of Oman's labour market. Nevertheless, it sought to narrow the divide between theoretical learning and practical application, aiming to modify educational curricula to meet industry requirements.
Eng. Ghassan bin Fadhl Bait bin Salim, an official from NEP, delivered insights into global economic trends and emphasised the importance of harmonizing them with local economic dynamics. He underscored the importance of focusing on commercial diversification, investment in renewable energy, attracting foreign investment, and fostering tourism development.
Furthermore, he elucidated Oman Vision 2040's outlook for various economic sectors, including advancement in technology, innovation, industry, logistics, mining, fishing, and agriculture.
The discussion session also covered labour market developments, including freelance work, part-time and remote work, the importance of employment governance committees, qualitative job localization, added local value, local content, and priority employment for Omanis in all economic sectors in the Sultanate of Oman.
