MUSCAT: The Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology (MoTCIT) celebrated the graduation of the third batch of members enrolled for the ‘Makeen’ camps conducted by Programming Academy.
The graduation ceremony was held under the auspices of Dr Ali bin Amer al Shaithani, Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology for Communications and Information Technology. Around 100 job-seekers received their qualifications in five disciplines: Data Science and AI, Comprehensive Web Application Development, Smartphone Application Development, Systems Engineering and Cybersecurity.
More than 2,000 candidates applied for the opportunity to enrol for the Makeen Camps. The success rate is typically around 73 per cent for Data Science and AI, 65 per cent for Systems Engineering, 48 per cent for Comprehensive Web Application Development, 40 per cent for Smartphone App Development and 47 per cent for Cybersecurity.
Ahmed bin Salem al Wahaibi, Head of the Training Programmes at the Future Skills Development Department, indicated that the Makeen camps were launched in May 2023, where 100 job-seekers were trained in various fields related to technology. More than half of them were successfully recruited by private sector companies.
The 6-month programme is followed by four months of training in labs of the Programming Academy, before they become eligible for internships in local companies.
Training across all tracks includes specialised programmes to develop problem-solving and programming thinking skills. Candidates are also exposed to the latest versions of technologies and applications in the local and global market.
The Makeen camps also include programmes to develop personal skills, such as effective communication skills, working skills within a team and developing self-learning skills to ensure the trainee’s continuous development.
The Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology is looking forward to expanding the Makeen camps in its second edition to include a larger number of graduates and new technical specialisations that keep pace with developments in the Omani and global labour markets.
For the next two batches, enrolment will be expanded to accommodate 200 job-seekers from various governorates, he said.
