KHASAB: Salalah powerhouse Dhofar cemented their domination as the top winning club in HM Cup despite the disappointing technical shows and current position of the team in the domestic league. Dhofar managed to earn another significant victory as they won the 2023-2024 His Majesty’s Cup football after beating Al Nahdha 2-0 in the final clash at Khasab Sports Complex on Friday to grab their 11th title in the history. Salalah giants managed to survive in the current season by winning this victory.

The triumph has confirmed that Dhofar will get a confidence boost in the Omantel league as they are struggling in the bottom of the table order. The Salalah-based team are currently placed at the 10th position with 20 points while Bahla with 14 points in the 11th place and Al Wahda in the 12th place with 13 points.

The head coach of Dhofar club, Younis Aman, hailed his team’s 2-0 win over Al Nahdha to the young and experienced players in the team. “I am really proud of my players as there are only a few experienced players and the majority of them in the squad are still youth and young players. Special thanks to them for their top show and another thanks to our loyal fans who came from Dhofar to support the team,” he said.

“I am very pleased and honoured to win this coveted cup as player, admin staff and head coach. It is a really historic moment for me and these memories will not be forgotten. Our next focus will be fighting in the top-flight league to remain in the Omantel league. We are very confident after this essential triumph that the team will remain in Omantel league,” he added.

Dhofar and former national team player, Qasim Said, said that the technical commitment and players' discipline inside the green field gave Dhofar better chances to win the title. “Al Nahdha are one of the strong teams and majority of the players in Al Nahdha played in Dhofar in previous seasons. Dhofar depended on the younger generation of the players and they proved with their confidence and top show in the pitch to lift the prestigious cup,” he said.

“As players of Dhofar, we have worked since the beginning of this season to win the HM Cup despite our current situation in the league. Ahead of the final match, we agreed as players to deliver our best towards clinching the title and this occurred. I would like to thank all my team-mates, technical and admin staff and big crowds who attended and supported the team in this final match,” he concluded.
