Muscat: The Oman Automobile Association (OAA) organised an award ceremony to appreciate and honour the most talented and passionate motorsport drivers of the Sultanate of Oman.
The ceremony was held to celebrate the remarkable achievements of three drivers, Al Faisal al Zubair, Ahmad al Harthy and Abdullah al Rawahi, who brought enormous pride to Oman on a global scale.
The drivers were awarded by Brigadier Salim al Maskari, Chairman of the Board of Directors, and Brigadier Jamal al Tai, Vice-Chairman, to acknowledge their remarkable accomplishments in the field of motorsport.
Al Faisal al Zubair, a renowned race car driver, achieved impressive results in international racing competitions. He secured second place in the Asian Le Mans Series in Dubai and also secured pole position and second place podium in the Gold Cup category of the Fanatec GT world challenge endurance in France. He continued his winning streak at the opening round of the International GT Open held in Portimão, where he secured a dominant first place.
Ahmad al Harthy was also honoured for his contributions to Omani motorsport and recent racing achievements. He received a royal commendation badge for his significant contributions, and he showcased his talent by securing the fourth position in the World Endurance Championship's opening round held in Qatar.
He finished sixth in the Fanatec GT World Challenge's first-round race held in France and secured the second place in the second round of the World Endurance Championship held in Imola, Italy. He was also honoured by HH Sayyid Theyazin bin Haitham al Said, Minister of Culture, Sports and Youth, for his notable accomplishments in Omani motorsport.
Abdullah al Rawahi, an accomplished rally racer, was honoured at the ceremony for his recent victories in the field of motorsport. He became the first Omani driver to win the Middle East Rally Championship in 2023. He received the FIA prize for this accomplishment shared with the legendary Nasser al Attiyah. His dedication was honoured by HH Sayyid Theyazin bin Haitham al Said, Minister of Culture, Sports and Youth. He also secured a respectable third-place finish in the opening rounds of the Middle East Rally Championship 2024 held in Qatar.
The honour awarded to Al Faisal Al Zubair, Ahmad al Harthy and Abdullah al Rawahi by the OAA is evidence to the association's commitment to promoting and supporting motorsport in Oman. The OAA has been instrumental in creating a platform for Omani drivers to showcase their talents and compete at the highest levels.
