Rain lashed many parts of Oman on Thursday with chances of thundershowers with heavy rain and strong winds till Saturday.
Meteorologists said the trough is expected to continue its effects over the next two days with chances for rainfall of varying intensity over the governorates of Al Sharqiyah South, Al Wusta, Dhofar, and over Al Hajar Mountains and the adjoining area.
Salalah received 26 mm, Rakhyout 21 mm and Dhalkout 10 mm of rain by midday on Thursday.
Maabela in Muscat Governorate received a good amount of rain.
The Civil Aviation Authority advised all to take precaution during rain and not cross flooded wadis.
In addition to flowing wadis, another concern has been strong wind gusts that could lead to road accidents and mishaps.
The National Committee for Emergency Management advised the public to stay away from low lying areas, dilapidated structures and electrical poles.
The northern governorates are just coming out of a weather system during April 28 and 29 that had brought rainfall that saw Samayil receive 37 mm, Al Rustaq 23 mm, Nakhal 15 mm, Qurayat 10 mm, Wadi Al Maawil 7 mm and Al Amerat 4 mm.
The latest forecasts and analyses indicate the continuity of the effect of a trough over the Sultanate of Oman. From Al Batinah South the weather condition expanded towards Muscat and Al Dakhiliyah.
Many wilayats of Al Batinah South Governorate received rains accompanied by winds.
In the Wilayat of Al Rustaq, rain fell on the villages of Al Washail, Falaj Al Aali, Al Hazm, Jamma, and on the villages of Wadi Al Sahtan.
In Nakhal, rain fell on the villages of Al Taw, Halban and Bowah.
In Wadi Al Maawil, rain fell on the villages of Al Lajal and Hubra.
The Wilayat of Mahout in Al Wusta Governorate also witnessed rainfall ranging from moderate to heavy in Mudira, Al Juba and Sarab, which led to the flooding of a number of wadis.
The Sultan’s Armed Forces confirmed its full readiness to deal with the weather condition, Al Ikram. During its meeting, the main military committee reviewed the weather situation. The meeting was chaired by Brigadier General Hamid bin Abdullah al Balushi, Assistant Chief of Staff of the Sultan’s Armed Forces for Operations and Planning. Representatives of the Sultan's Armed Forces, the Royal Guard of Oman, the Sultan's Special Forces, the Engineering Services of the Ministry of Defence, the National Survey Authority, and the Medical Services of the Armed Forces took part in the meeting.
During the meeting, the committee was also briefed on all the preparations and measures that have been taken since the announcement of the weather situation. — With ONA inputs
