MUSCAT: The Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology (MTCIT), in partnership with the Arab Research Bureau, unveiled details of the COMEX Technology Exhibition 2024, which will be held between May 27 and 30.

With the participation of ministries, government agencies, embassies, burgeoning startups, and regional and international organizations, Comex aims to accelerate the objectives outlined in the National Digital Economy Programme, a cornerstone initiative envisioned to propel Oman's economic diversification.

The exhibition will be a vibrant showcase of cutting-edge e-services and technological advancements across diverse sectors. Attendees can expect immersive experiences featuring artificial intelligence, financial technology (fintech), blockchain, drone technology, future mobility solutions, augmented reality, smart city initiatives, and even space exploration endeavors.

A key objective of COMEX 2024 is to attract foreign investment into Oman's burgeoning telecommunications and information technology (ICT) sector by showcasing promising opportunities.

Over 100 Omani startups, brimming with innovative technological products, solutions, and digital services, will be prominently featured.

This participation is driven by the collective support of MTCIT, the Public Authority for Small and Medium Enterprises (PASME), Omantel, Azza Smart Solutions, the Central Bank of Oman, and the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries.

Dr. Ali bin Amer Al Shidhani, Undersecretary of MTCIT for Communications and Information Technology, emphasized the government's unwavering commitment to digitalization. “His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik has consistently underscored the critical role of the digital economy as a powerful driver for national progress,” stated Dr. Al Shidhani. “The National Digital Economy Programme, proposed by MTCIT in 2021, is being actively implemented, and we are pleased to report that the program is on track to achieve its ambitious goals.”

Dr. Al Shidhani said, “We have established a dedicated forum to facilitate government digital transformation and knowledge exchange across various sectors and participating countries. This forum will also recognize leading government agencies for their commendable digitalization efforts.”

Highlighting the event's track record, Dr. Al Shidhani noted, “The last edition of COMEX proved to be a resounding success, generating investments exceeding $40 million. This year, we aim to surpass this achievement and propel Oman's digital economy to even greater heights.”

He further emphasized the national aspirations, stating, “With these initiatives in place, we envision the digital economy contributing 10% of Oman's GDP by 2040, a significant leap from the current figure of approximately 2%.”
