Oman rank fourth in AlUla Camel Cup 2024

MUSCAT: The Sultanate of Oman have won fourth place out of 11 countries participating in the recently held AlUla Camel Cup 2024 held under the auspices of Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz al Saud, Crown Prince, Prime Minister and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Royal Commission for AlUla Governorate in Saudi Arabia.


Oman bagged SAR 1.75 million from among 7 countries on the list of financial prizes out of 11 countries which participated in the coveted race of camels which is an annual event of the mighty camels from across the world.


Camel owners from Qatar topped the list of financial prizes in the AlUla Camel Cup after the conclusion of its 16 rounds on Saturday, on the grounds of the AlUla Camel Arena.


Prince Abdulaziz bin Saud bin Nayef bin Abdulaziz, Minister of Interior, crowned the winners at the conclusion of the competitions of the second edition of the Al Ula Camel Cup, in the Mughira Heritage Sports Village in AlUla Governorate, organised by the Royal Commission for Al Ula Governorate and the Saudi Camel Federation.

The activities of the second edition of the championship kicked off last Wednesday at the AlUla Camel Track, where the total prize money for the 16 rounds amounted to 80,960,000 Saudi riyals, according to the schedule of the 'Hump of Racing'.


Qatar won first place in the AlUla Camel Cup 2024 and collected SAR 37.95 million, followed by the United Arab Emirates, where they collected SAR 26.32 million and then Saudi Arabia, the hosts of the sporting event, which collected SAR 13.39 million.


As for the fourth place, the Sultanate of Oman won with about 15 camels that participated in the AlUla Camel Cup 2024, where they won SAR 1.75 million, followed by the United States of America with SAR 800,000. As for sixth place, Iran came, followed by Bahrain with SAR 70,000 and SAR 50,000, respectively.

The AlUla Camel Cup aims to develop camel sports as a symbol of the Kingdom’s heritage and culture, highlighting the authenticity of AlUla and its natural cultural environment, and the culmination of a busy season of multiple camel races in the Kingdom and the region.


"The Cup also reflects its position in camel racing in the world, and to that distinction is added the declaration of this year as the Year of the Camel," the organisers said.


This came as celebrating its cultural importance and its close connection to the heritage of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the AlUla Camel Cup honours this ancient heritage and provides the public with the opportunity to learn about the culture of the Kingdom in a distinctive sporting atmosphere.
