Rains from local cloud formations are expected till Tuesday and probably Wednesday, according to Oman Met Office.


The weather forecaster from Oman Met Office said the areas under the influence, impacted by the temperature and humidity, are Al Hajar Mountains, North and South Al Batinah, Muscat, Al Dakhiliyah, and some parts of North Al Sharqiyah.


Speaking to the Observer, he said there could be isolated rain, occasionally associated with downdraft and hail. He pointed out that the wadis would flow during this period. A trough could develop over the weekend.


Muscat radar, on Sunday late afternoon, showed the activity of thunder cells over the mountainous areas of the governorates of South Al Batinah, Al Dakhiliyah and Muscat, with chances of rain extending to the coastal areas of the Sea of Oman.


The weather forecast also said the activity of cumulus clouds, accompanied by active descending winds and hailstones falling on parts of the mountainous areas of the governorates of North Al Batinah, South Al Batinah, Al Dakhiliyah, and Muscat, with their activity to continue and expand in the coming time.


Rainfall was recorded in Wadi Mastal in Nakhal in South Al Batinah Governorate, as well as in Al Awabi. Madha also enjoyed scenic waterfalls with rain. Suhar also received good amount of rain. Heavy rain was recorded in Wadi Al Rehab, west of Qurayat.


The weather forecast for Monday states that clear to partly cloudy skies over most of the governorates with chances of convective cloud development and isolated rain occasionally with thundershowers during the afternoon and evening over Al Hajar Mountains and adjoining areas and will also extend to cover Oman sea coasts.


There is also chance of late night to early morning low clouds or fog patches over parts of South Al Sharqiyah, North Al Sharqiyah, Al Dakhylia, South Al Batinah and parts of the Sea of Oman coastal areas.
