Oman to offer foreign visitors free treatment in emergencies

Muscat: Sultan bin Salem al Habsi, chairman of the Board of Directors of the Financial Services Authority (FSA) has issued a decision regarding the treatment of visitors to the Sultanate in emergency cases.


The decision stated that a special bank account would be opened from which assistance is disbursed to treat visitors (non-Omanis coming to the Sultanate of Oman through land, sea, or air border on a visit.)


A committee will be formed to manage the account, the formation of which shall be issued by a decision issued by the CEO, specifying the president, his deputy, its members, and a secretary.


The term of membership of the committee shall be for three years, renewable for similar periods.


Committee's role


The committee will study requests for assistance, verify all documents and data, verify the patient’s health condition, and refer him to health institutions.


It will seek assistance from one of the health insurance claims management companies to review requests for assistance verify their authenticity, and determine the financial compensation that will be paid to the health insurance claims management company, in exchange for the services provided by it in this regard, or any other party specified by the committee for assistance.


Conditions


The conditions include exhausting the insurance coverage limit specified for emergency cases in the health insurance policy for visitors, the expiry of the visitors’ health insurance policy, and the absence of a health insurance document or travel insurance document for visitors.


Citizens of the GCC residing in the Sultanate of Oman for less than three months and members of delegations visiting the Sultanate of Oman, including delegations of sports and cultural clubs invited through official bodies, are exempted from the treatment.


Documents


Documents to be submitted include the visit visa, proof of the emergency health condition that necessitated the visitor’s visit to the hospital, and proof of the visitor’s inability to pay emergency treatment expenses, provided that this proof is certified by the visitor’s embassy within the Sultanate of Oman or any of the competent government agencies.


Assistance


The assistance to be provided by the decision of the committee should not exceed RO5,000 and is disbursed according to the priority of applying.


The committee may stop disbursing assistance if sufficient liquidity is not available.
