Weather system till Saturday as restoration work continues

The Basic Services Sector of the Subcommittee for Emergency Situations Management in Al Buraimi Governorate confirmed the completion of the return of most of the services that were affected as a result of the weather condition in the recent period.


The weather forecaster at Oman Met Office said the current weather system will continue until Saturday, but it will be mainly concentrated over Al Hajar Mountains especially the eastern range.


Thunderstorms of varying intensity, accompanied by hailstones, were reported in parts of Al Dakhiliyah, Al Batinah South, and Al Sharqiyah North governorates, and are likely over Al Hajar Mountains. A good amount of rain was reported in parts of of Samayil and Al Mudhaibi.


Sandstorm alert as well as dust rising was issued for Qarn Alam, Fahud and Haima. Along the coasts of Sea of Oman, winds will be northerly to northeasterly, light to moderate becoming variably light at night, while over the coastal areas of the Arabian Sea it will be southwesterly, moderate and occasionally fresh and over rest of the governorates winds are expected to be northwesterly, light to moderate occasionally fresh over desert areas.


The sea state is expected to be moderate along the Arabian Sea and western Musandam coasts with maximum wave height 2.0 metres and slight to moderate along the rest of the coasts of Oman with maximum wave height 1.5 metres.


On Wednesday water was released from Wadi Al Khoudh Dam to drain about 9.8 million cubic metres of water with the aim of feeding the underground reservoir and preparing the dam to receive more water in the event of rains during the coming period.


Al Mudhaibi had its wadis flowing in strength as well as wadis in Ibra, while Wadi Al Mu’ayden in Birkat Al Mouz, Nizwa gained momentum with water coming down from Al Jabal Al Akhdhar.


Meanwhile, the search for the missing person from the previous rains is still continuing. The search teams from the Civil Defence and Ambulance Department in ⁧ Al Sharqiya‬h North Governorate, with support from the governorate’s Police Command, continued the search for the missing person
