Muscat: The deep-rooted historical relations between the United Arab Emirates and the Sultanate of Oman have their special character, and are based on brotherhood, good neighborliness, and familial and interpenetration.
The fraternal relations are considered a model of what relations between brothers should be like, including meeting the aspirations of the two brotherly peoples.
The relations between the two countries are characterized by features that place them in the rank of special distinguished ties at various levels, in addition to the economic and trade partnerships between them based on constructive cooperation, investment, and the exchange of knowledge and expertise in multiple fields.
These relations began with the first meeting between Late Sultan Qaboos bin Said and Late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan al Nahyan, with agreement on common issues for peoples in various fields.
The nature of the relationship between the Emirati and Omani peoples is characterized by being familial, as the two countries have very deep relations historically, and the most prominent pillars of this relationship are religion, language, lineage, the single roots of tribes and families, neighbors with long common borders, a common history, and a unity of interests.
These relations are not limited to areas of common interest, but they have always been relations of a special nature, distinguished by the sincere brotherhood, rapprochement, and geographical overlap that brings the two countries together, based on good neighborliness and
close social and family ties, which enjoy great importance among the two brotherly peoples and are supported by ties of history and common Islamic, Arab, and Gulf affiliation.
On the cultural side, the two countries have closely and continuously strengthened cooperation in this important field through participation and holding events and activities, including the UAE Cultural Week in the Sultanate of Oman, which was held on December 11, 2006, on the occasion of the Sultanate of Oman’s celebrations in Muscat as the Capital of Arab Culture for the year 2006, and included four specialized exhibitions. In Arabic calligraphy, coins, plastic arts, books, and cultural publications.
Oman, represented by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth and the Ministry of Information, participates in book fairs in the United Arab Emirates in Abu Dhabi and Sharjah annually, while various cultural and media institutions in the United Arab Emirates participate in the Muscat International Book Fair annually.
The UAE has land borders with the Sultanate of Oman, and there are five land ports linking the two countries, including Al-Wajjah port between the Sultanate and the Emirate of Dubai, Wadi Al-Jizzi and Hafeet ports between the Sultanate and the city of Al-Ain, Khatmat Milaha port between the Sultanate and the Emirate of Sharjah, and Tibat port.
Omani-Emirati relations are based on historical ties passed down through generations of the two brotherly peoples, drawing different features for the future, based on their formation on what confirms the continuity of communication in all fields, especially in light of the visions and ideas that stem from the principles of language, religion, and ties.
