Shaikh Aimen al Hosni, CEO of Oman Airports Management Co (Oman Airports), recently shared his insights on airport innovation, technology, and the future growth of the aviation industry in an interview with International Airport Review. In the discussion, Al Hosni highlighted the pivotal role of technology in shaping the future of airports and enhancing the passenger experience.


Central to Oman Airports' strategy is a strong emphasis on investing in technology and IT infrastructure. Al Hosni stressed the importance of prioritising technological advancements over traditional infrastructure, stating, "Invest in technology and IT and invest less in your infrastructure."


This forward-thinking approach underscores Oman Airports' commitment to leveraging innovation to stay ahead of the curve in a rapidly evolving industry landscape.


Moreover, Al Hosni shed light on Oman Airports' proactive measures to embrace a culture of innovation within the organisation. By establishing an innovation lab and actively engaging with startups, Oman Airports seeks to harness cutting-edge ideas that can revolutionise airport operations and elevate the overall passenger experience.


Al Hosni remarked, "We're building on that investment to get lots of good ideas from the market and to implement them in Oman Airports." The interview also delved into the impact of the pandemic on passenger expectations and airport operations. He emphasised the significance of cleanliness, hygiene, and efficient processes in responding to the evolving needs of travelers.


He noted, "After the pandemic, passengers are keen on cleanliness, hygiene, and streamlined security checks."


Furthermore, Al Hosni outlined Oman Airports' strategy for driving future growth and expansion. With a vision to own and manage airports outside Oman, he expressed his ambition for the company's international expansion. He commented, "I want Oman Airports to own and manage airports outside Oman. And this is my dream since three years ago or four years ago."


In a bid to foster innovation and diversity in decision-making, Oman Airports has established a board of directors comprised entirely of Gen Z members. Al Hosni highlighted the board's role in bringing fresh perspectives and driving innovative solutions within the organisation. He shared, "Youth board members provide unique insights and ideas that cater to the preferences of the younger generation of travelers."


Al Hosni expressed his enthusiasm for the evolving travel experience and the transformative potential of technology in reshaping airport operations. He underscored the importance of leveraging technological advancements to enhance the efficiency and convenience of travel processes. Al Hosni concluded, "Using technology to create a seamless travel experience is key to ensuring passenger satisfaction and operational excellence in the future."
