Muscat: The death toll in Sunday’s flash floods has gone up to 18 with the Civil Defence and Ambulance teams finding one of the missing persons.
The Civil Defence and Ambulance Authority (CDAA) said two persons was found dead after his vehicle was impounded in the Wadi Halfin stream in the state of Adam.
In another incident, reported about a vehicle carrying 5 people drifting into a valley in the Duqm, where two of them were rescued and taken to the hospital to receive the necessary treatment. Rescue teams from the Civil Defense and Ambulance Department in Al Wusta Governorate continue their search for missing 3 other people.
CDAA said a vehicle with 4 people in it drifting in a valley in the state of Adam, where two people were found dead, and a search is underway for the other two.
Authorities have recorded 18 deaths, including 6 citizens and 10 students as a result of their vehicles in a wadi in Samad Al-Shaan.
Lieutenant Colonel Mohammed bin Salam Al Hashami, the official spokesman for the National Center for Emergency Management (NCEM), said the center received 78 distress calls since Sunday morning.
He pointed out that rains are concentrated in the governorates of North al Sharqiyah, South al Sharqiyah, Al Dakhiliyah, and South al Batinah, stressing that the search is still ongoing for two citizens."
On Sunday, police aviation carried out a rescue operation to rescue two people after a vehicle carrying a group of students drifted in a flowing wadi in the Samad al Shaan.
As several governorates witnessed torrential rains on Sunday morning, there were few instances of school buses with students getting stranded in the flowing water or flash floods.
The Civil Defense and Ambulance Department Authority (CDAA) rescue teams in the North Sharqiyah Governorate safely rescued 27 people after a school bus got stuck in a wadi in the Ibra wilayat.
In a separate case, 21 students were safely rescued after their school bus got stuck in flowing water in the Wilayat of Nizwa.
The Rawdha School building in Al Mudhaibi was inundated with rainwater with Wadi Samad Al Shan flowing at dangerous levels. Several people have been stranded inside the school, while vehicles in the parking lot drifted away.
