Muscat: Various wilayats of the Muscat Governorate have witnessed moderate to heavy rains since early Sunday morning, with the authorities urging people and road users to exercise caution.


There are reports of people stranded inside their vehicles in various wilayats, but no casualties reported.


A citizen was rescued after his vehicle drifted in the wilayat of Al Amerat by the Civil Defense and Ambulance Authority. He is in good health.


As per the forecast, heavy thunderstorms accompanied by strong downdraft winds and hail will continue until tomorrow evening over the governorates of North al Sharqiyah, South al Sharqiya, Al Dakhyliah, Muscat, South al Batinah, Al Dhahirah, and parts of North Al Batinah, Al Buraimi, Musandam and Al Wusta governorates with anticipated rainfall amounts ranging from 30-120 mm leading to flashfloods and wadis.

• Heavy thundershowers with hail are expected ranging (30-120 mm) and may cause flash floods


• Strong downdraft active winds with a speed ranging from 15 - 45 knots (28 - 83 km/h).


• Sea state may rise along Musandam governorate and Oman Sea coasts (2 - 3 meters).


• Reduction in horizontal visibility during thundershowers.















Amerat- Bausher Road is closed as a precaution, reported the Royal Oman Police (ROP).

Reports suggested that the wilayat of Ibri experienced hail in the morning.



According to sources, most parts of the capital are experiencing rainfall of varying intensity.

The National Committee for Emergency Management (NCEM) has formed subcommittees in the governorates that are expected to be affected by weather conditions.


NCEM called everyone to take all necessary precautions to ensure the safety of lives and property.
