An unprecedented number of people thronged to the largest zoo in Oman on the second day of Eid as it had a soft opening in Ibra, adding yet another milestone to the national tourism.

'Safari World', which boasts of housing over 350 animals from across the globe on a built-up area of over 286,000 square metres, with a plethora of activities, welcomed people from diverse backgrounds, according to the promoters of the ambitious project.

"We received thousands of people of different nationalities since morning and they enjoyed a complete family picnic, thanks to the vast area and amenities, besides animals, reptiles and birds," said Dr Khalfan bin Saeed al Maamari.

'Safari World' features animals of various natures, from African lions and tigers to Omani deers, gazelles, reptiles and birds from different continents of the world.

The entry fee to the zoo has been fixed at RO 5 for adults but children below 12 will only be charged RO 3 while kids below 4 can enter free. The zoo is open from 8 am to 10 pm every day.

"We have plans for a water theme park and a complete family entertainment avenue, animal feeding area, family boating facility and the like, part of a complete day offering full of entertainment," he said.

Dr Al Maamari said that, in order to attract more families and groups, 'Safari World' will also have family packages, group packages and days dedicated to school children.

Visitors to the largest zoo are in for a treat to their eyes with a vast range of animals from tigers and lions to deers and gazelles, birds and other wild animals.

Most of the animals are locally sourced while many are from the GCC, Asia, Africa and Europe.

He believes that 'Safari World' is going to be a major attraction for tourists visiting the Sultanate of Oman as a large line up of animals, alligators, birds and the like is all set to enthral the visitors and will be a sureshot to bring in more tourists to the country.

Nearly 30 members of the Oman Bikers will visit the zoo on April 19. Additionally, an exclusive birds show will be held on April 20 where exclusive birds will go on display for the spectators.
