Muscat: The Sultanate of Oman delegation arrived in the UAE to take part in the first edition of the GCC Youth Games. The delegation consists of more than 200 individuals, including athletes, technical, administrative staff and medical team.
Oman will participate in 14 individual and team games, which will be held in Abu Dhabi, Ajman, Dubai, Fujairah and Sharjah from April 16 to May 2.
Oman’s delegation is headed by Khalid bin Mohammed al Zubair, Chairman of the Oman Olympic Committee; his deputy, Qais bin Saud al Zakwani, member of the Board of Directors of the Oman Olympic Committee; and Taha al Kishry, Secretary-General of the Oman Olympic Committee.
Oman Olympic Committee (OOC) chose 14 games to compete in this edition, some of them are for the first time like sailing, football, golf, taekwondo, water sports, athletics, handball, volleyball, basketball, chess, fencing, table tennis, billiards, snooker and equestrian.
Recently OOC held an introductory meeting headed by Al Kishry, delegation director Kadhim al Balushi, to review Oman’s participation in the tournament.
Oman U-17 national football team will take on host UAE on Tuesday. They will play the second match against Kuwaiti on Friday, and the national team will conclude the competitions with Bahraini team. All matches will be held at Al Nahyan Stadium.
Football team delegation includes Anwar al Habsi, the team’s coach, his assistant, Musab al Dhamri, Hamdan Beit Said, the team’s manager, and Nasser al Abri. The players include Ahmed al Rawahi, Fahd al Mashaykhi, Ziad al Matani, Osama al Omari, Mudathir al Batrani, Mohammed al Mashaykhi, Ali al Awaini, Ibrahim al Shamsi, Al Khattab al Rawahi, Yazen al Khalidi, Abdullah al Saadi, Maath al Hinai, Al Yazan al Balushi, Firas al Saadi, Mohammed al Salhi, Al Waleed al Buraida’i, Rabi al Mushafiri, Al Mutasim al Muqbali, Qais Beit Shujanah, Ahmed al Omrani, Ibrahim al Tamimi, Suleiman al Kharusi, and Al Hassan al Qasimi.
Oman national Taekwondo team will arrive in Al Fujairah on Saturday. It includes 14 individuals, including players and technical and administrative staff. The team will compete in ten weights, 33-37 kg, 37-41 kg, 49-53 kg, 45 kg, 48-51 kg, and 51 kg, 51-55 kg, 45-49 kg, 37-41 kg, and 49-52 kg.
Taekwondo’s delegation includes Mohammed al Kathiri, administrator, Saif al Shamli, administrator, Hareb al Abdali, coach, Adel al Wahaibi, coach, and the players Dawood al Yousifi, Ziad al Balushi, Mohammed al Hajri, Al Muhannad al Balushi, Al Ezz al Maawali, Qaboos al Balushi, Abdulrahman al Jari, Yousef al Zadjali, Anya Al Abdali and Fidaa al Barwani.
Oman’s delegation has completed all preparations in the UAE to receive the national teams. The administrative delegation includes Kadhim al Balushi, delegation director, Said al Hosani, Said al Harrasi, and Said al Jarjashi.
Oman volleyball team will take on UAE, Kuwait, Qatar on April 20. The team will conclude its participation by meeting Bahraini team on April 25, and all matches will be held at Al Nasr Club Hall in Dubai.
National volleyball team is led by coach Islam Mohammed and his assistant Tamer Abdelrasoul. The players are Khalfan al Maamari, Haitham al Ghailani, Mohammed al Sanani, Tamim al Jabri, Al Azhar al Hassani and Nawaf al Maamari, Rashid al Muraiki, Alaa al Buraiki, Salem al Maamari, Ahmed al Balushi, Said al Maamari and Sultan al Toubi.
Handball competitions will be held at Al Bataeh Club Hall. The competition will be held in a single-round league system.
