The first day of Eid al Fitr in Oman will be on Wednesday, the Main Moon Sighting Committee announced on Tuesday.
The committee was headed by Dr Mohammed bin Said bin Khalfan al Maamari, Minister of Awqaf and Religious Affairs. The committee was comprised of Dr Shaikh Kahlan bin Nabhan al Kharusi, Assistant Grand Mufti of the Sultanate of Oman; Eng Khalid bin Hilal al Busaidy, Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Interior; Ahmed bin Saleh al Rashdi, Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Awqaf and Religious Affairs; Mohammed bin Salem al Akhzami, Supreme Court Judge; Abdul Rahman bin Abdul Sattar al Kamali, Supreme Court Judge; and Mohammed bin Salem al Nahdi, Supreme Court Judge.
The committee received information confirming the sighting of the crescent. After studying these reports, the committee declared that Shawwal 1445 AH will begin on Wednesday.
"Accordingly, Wednesday will be the first day of the month of Shawwal for the year 1445 AH and the first day of Eid al Fitr, corresponding to April 10, 2024," the minister said in a statement.
On this auspicious occasion, the Ministry of Awqaf and Religious Affairs extended its congratulations to His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik, ministers and the people of Oman.
