Muscat: On the 27th day of Ramadan, a large number of citizens and residents flocked to the location where Habta takes place in the wilalyats of Jaalan Bani Bu Ali and Jaalan Bani Bu Hassan to get themselves the Eid essentials such as livestock, Omani halwa, traditional clothes, nuts and toys and candies for children. The place is buzzing with activities as buyers scramble to buy goods badly needed during the Eid holidays.
At the Habta markets in the wilalyats of Jaalan Bani Bu Ali and Jaalan Bani Bu, shoppers can get whatever they want at concessionary prices.
Despite the fact that upscale shopping centres are ubiquitous across the country, Habta traditional markets are so special among older generations but children are also acquiring passion for these markets as they grow up.
All products and commodities that are necessary for Eid are sold at Habta markets from livestock and fish to ghee and dates and from honey to Omani halwa which is packed in sacks made from palm fronds. At Habta markets you can buy house utensils, potteries, Omani sticks, horse saddles, fruits, among others.
Livestock, the most important item for Eid celebrations, are sold in a dedicated area at the Habta market where you can find cows, camels, sheep and goats.
