Muscat: Oman climbed three spots to 77th in the latest men’s Fifa world rankings which was published on Thursday. Red Warriors were in the 80th spot in the previous list. The team raised their rating points from 1,307.6 to 1,323.23, gaining +15.63 points thanks to the latest triumphs against Malaysia 2-0 in Muscat and Kula Lumpur in March at the Preliminary Joint Qualification - Round 2 for the Fifa World Cup 2026 and the AFC Asian Cup Saudi Arabia 2027.
Oman, under new head coach Jaroslav Silhavy, will resume their Asian joint qualifiers in June as they will take on Chinese Taipei in an away game on June 6 and then will meet in Muscat on June 12 to conclude the second round of double qualifiers.
At the world level, World Cup champions Argentina remained on top ahead of France in second and Belgium in third place. In the Asian level, Japan were the top side as they remained unchanged at 18th with rating points of 1,621.88. Asian Cup champions Qatar have successfully moved up with three spots to 34th as their highest-ever position in the ranking with 1,507.94 points. South Korea and and Australia dropped one spot to stay in 23rd and 24th positions respectively while Iran stayed as second in Asia at 20th spot.
Indonesia made the biggest Asian move after they moved up eight spots to 134th spot. Afghanistan also climbed a significant jump as they advanced seven spots to 151. African Nations Cup champions Ivory Coast climbed one spot to 38th spot while Senegal remained as Africa’s top side in 17th place followed by Nigeria (30) and Egypt (37). It is expected that the next Fifa World Ranking will be released on June 20 following the conclusion of the double event qualifiers.
