Following the announcement of Eid al Fitr holidays, excitement was seen all over the country with elaborate preparations taking place few days before the day, involving shopping, planning outings and travelling for some.
“Eid celebrations are important for us and hence deserve adequate preparations. I have finished all my Eid shopping and I am now considering ways to spend the Eid break,” said Maulid al Dhawi, employee of a private-owned enterprise, while considering flight options to Zanzibar.
Eid holidays, however, aren’t just about travelling. These are also social occasions when family and friends come together. “We are delighted to celebrate Eid al Fitr with our family and friends. I look forward to a gathering of family and friends at somewhere in Barka,” said Al Ansab resident Adel al Musallami.
During the last few days of Ramadhan, shops selling clothes, shoes, accessories, jewellery and gift items witness heavy rush, especially after iftar.
With shopping centres and malls wooing customers with special Eid offers, Consumer Protection Authority (CPA) is taking steps to monitor markets for irregularities.
Muscat Municipality, too, will make inspection visits during Eid al Fitr to commercial establishments, including restaurants, cafeterias and foodstuff shops, besides slaughterhouses.
On Thursday, shopping centres were packed with people who were stocking up Eid.
“We have had a number of customers since this morning. Customers know that they have just a few days to shop before Eid holidays,” said Ghaida Saeed, owner of a women’s dress shop in Ghubra.
Dressmakers and tailors are among the busiest at this time of the year. “We have seen a good number of customers at our store and we expect more business in the next few days.
