The National Records and Archives Authority has released the second part of the book "Al-Dhahira in the Memory of Omani History" as part of the 50th volume of the historical and civilizational series for Oman's willayats and cities. The book comprises 350 pages containing nine research papers on various topics related to the culture of Al Dhahira Governorate.

The book sheds light on the cultural role played by Al Dhahira throughout its long history. The nine research papers cover a diverse range of subjects, sources, and research methodologies, enriching the book scientifically. Additionally, the book's introduction provides an overview of the topics covered by the research and studies presented at the conference, along with a brief introduction to each of the nine research papers published in the second part of this edition.

The edition includes an appendix of some documents, images, and maps related to Al Dhahira Governorate from the documentary collections owned by the National Records and Archives Authority. It is expected that this edition will serve as a fundamental reference based on numerous facts benefiting researchers and enthusiasts, in addition to enriching local and international libraries with a range of publications based on documents and facts.

In the book's preface, Dr Hamad bin Mohammed al Dhawyani, President of NRAA, emphasized the importance of these research papers. He pointed out that today we stand at the threshold of research achievements presented at the Al Dhahira Conference in the Memory of Omani History, which addressed civilizational, historical, cultural, and economic aspects, highlighting the significance of Al Dhahira in Omani history over the centuries and historical epochs. Its distinguished location at the crossroads of land routes for transporting land trade caravans to the Arabian Peninsula has played an active role in the course of historical and political events. Its people have formed a political weight, contributing to shaping Oman's political future through the succession of governments and various political elites that ruled Oman. This role continued until the dawn of July 23, 1970, and the beginning of the blessed renaissance.

The people of Al Dhahira through its various willayats Al Buraimi, Yanqul, and Dhank, have contributed to the process of construction and development, providing support alongside their Omani brethren in creating progress and development for the Sultanate of Oman. Today, Al Dhahira witnesses urban, cultural, and economic development within a continuous modern renaissance, moving forward to catch up with civilizational progress and scientific advancement.

Dr Ahlam Hamoud al Jahwari, Assistant Director of the Research and Studies Department at NRAA, stated that this edition represents a translation of the vision of the National Records and Archives Authority, which is dedicated to preserving the ancient Omani history. It is in line with its strategic objectives to encourage scientific research in various civilizational fields. She added that this edition focuses on Al Dhahira and its three wilayats namely Al Buraimi, Yanqul, and Dhank. It is a culmination of research and studies presented at a specialized historical conference titled Al Dhahira Governorate in the Memory of Omani History," organized by the authority in March 2022 in Al Buraimi, as part of its efforts to introduce the civilizational contribution of Omani cities and wilayats.
