Oman's largest Zoo to open on 2nd day of Eid

Muscat: Oman's largest Zoo by size and number of ferocious animals, reptiles and birds, will open its doors to public on second day of Eid in Ibra, according to the promoters of the 'Safari World' entertainers.


Spread over a built up area of 150,000 square metres, the zoo which will also have a water theme park and a compete family menutertainment avenue, this Zoo will also have days dedicated to school children.


According to the promoters of the zoo, over 300 animals from different continents are going to be the attraction of the new zoo, which is aimed at adding yet another milestone to Oman's ongoing tourism march.


Speaking to the Observer, Khalfan Saeed al Ma'mari, an educationist and the promoter of the zoo, said that a vast range of animals from tiger and lion to deers and gazelles, birds and other creatures, and wild animals are arranged to welcome guests to the zoo from 2nd day of Eid.


"We are happy to announce the opening of the zoo which will house animals, reptiles, birds and the like in Ibra which has ambitious growth plans to mark Oman in the global tourism map," he added.


Most of the animals are locally sourced while many are from the GCC and other Asian countries and many others are from Africa and other European countries and Asia.


He believes that Safari World is going to be a major attraction for tourists visiting the Sultanate as a large line up of animals, alligators, birds and the like is all set to enthrall the visitors and will be a sureshot to bring in more tourists to the country.


Small scale zoos are already in operation in the country with a wide range of animals with the one of its kind habitat, thanks to the individual efforts in maintaining such havens for wild animals. However, Safari World will be the largest of its kind by far.
