The Ruwi Clock Tower area witnessed on Friday the largest community Iftar hosting nearly 5,000 people, thanks to the Deccan Wing of the Indian Social Club (ISC).
The annual Iftar saw a large number of people from different walks of life gathering at the historic clock tower area.
The Hyderabadi community in Oman initiated the event nearly 20 years back and the Deccani wing took over the organization when it was established as a part of the Indian Social Club in 2017.
The latest such gathering saw 1,500 women and nearly 4,000 men and children attending with many visitors from Nizwa, Suhar, and Salalah, making it probably the biggest such event held in Muscat this year.
Shaikh Emad bin Said al Rawahi Director at the Ministry of Awqaf and Religious Affairs, was the guest of honour while the Indian Ambassador Amit Narang was the chief guest, and Dr P Mohammed Ali, Chairman of MFAR in key attendance. The Indian Ambassador was taken around the venue by Suhail Khan chief Organiser, Dr Wasifuddin, Convener, and Mansoor Sabri Co-Convenor of Deccani Wing.
The attendees included distinguished Hyderabadi Omanis like Colonel Dr. Abid Ali, Dr. Zaheer Aldin, Dr. Sami, and also office bearers of the ISC parent body.
An energetic team of volunteers headed by Suhail Khan included Mirza, Ghaffar, Imran, Ilyas, Habeeb Salim, Kashif, Yusuf, Sayeed, Dawood, and Ali made sure the event flowed smoothly with no concerns of shortage of any items distributed among the people from various backgrounds.
The women's section of the the Iftar was coordinated by Mariam, Rubina, Kauser, Nabeela, Sheila, Dr Fatima Safia, Humera, and Zeeshan.
The professional team of volunteers also included Shabaaz, Fasi, Shafi, Samad, Masi, Aziz, Nizam, and Mohsin.
"Events of this nature are testimony to Islam's resilience and adaptability. We are glad to attend the event hosted by our Muslim fraternity which teaches us brotherhood, peace, and harmony," Vishal Malhotra, an attendee told the Observer.
