Muscat: As the holy month enters the second phase, the number of companies distributing iftar kits has increased.

Muscat, like many other cities, is witnessing a beeline of people, mostly bachelors and passersby, awaiting take-away Iftar kits to break their fast on time.

“We distribute 50 to 100 iftar kits every day, which is a regular practice during the holy month to show that we care for those who fast from morning till sunset,” say representatives of Global Money Exchange in Oman, which offers iftar kits at its branches.

This year too, although there is a decline in mass iftars, these kits are a great boon for laborers, individuals on the move, and bachelors living and working in the city.

Mass Iftars and public gatherings are part of the holy month to cement social relations. Such gatherings also aim at bridging the gap between the rich and the poor. “For me, it is not very realistic to reach my room for iftar in Ghala from Wadi Al Kabir where I work. I find iftar kits a great boon and gives me confidence about fasting the next day,” Nurul Islam, an expatriate laborer, told the Observer.
