Muscat: The Sultanate of Oman will mark the first day of spring astronomically tomorrow, March 20, according to an official statement.
The phenomenon of the summer solstice is expected to be around on June 20.
It may be noted that temperatures have been rising in the country with maximum temperatures predicted around 30 to mid-30 degrees Celsius in various cities for Tuesday, including 33°C in Seeb, 36°C in Amerat, 35°C in Nizwa, 16°C in Nizwa, 35°C in Sur, 27°C in Salalah and 36°C in Fahud.
Warm Winter
The Sultanate of Oman had the warmest winter in December 2023, according to Oman Meteorology, though temperatures dropped marginally for some weeks of February and March this year due to a series of air troughs affecting the atmosphere.
Al Buraimi station recorded a temperature increase of +1.9 degrees Celsius, while Masirah station recorded an increase of 1. 2 degrees Celsius compared to the average temperature for December. The highest temperatures recorded in December were in Wadi Al Maawil (34.8), Barka (34), Mirbat (33.8), and Salalah (33.2) among others.
The highest recorded temperature was in December 2016, when it reached 32.5 degrees Celsius. As for December 2023, 30 degrees Celsius was recorded as the highest temperature, and the lowest recorded temperature was 20 degrees Celsius.
According to reports, the year 2023 was the hottest on record, with global average temperatures at 1.46C above pre-industrial levels and 0.13C higher than the eleven-month average for 2016, currently the warmest calendar year on record.
