MUSCAT: As part of ongoing efforts to enhance cultural and religious communication, the Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre on Monday witnessed the inauguration of the 'Hidaya Waqf' Foundation, under the auspices of Abdulsalam bin Mohammed al Murshidi, Chairman of Oman Investment Authority (OIA).

'Hidaya' will focus on highlighting the values of true Islam, address non-Muslims and provide support for cultural exchange programmes. It will underscore the civilisational role of Omani society and promote scholarly communication among nations, peoples and societies.

'Hidaya' signed five memoranda of understanding (MoU) that deal with strategic partnerships with other institutions, government departments and private sector establishments. The MoUs will cover various aspects of cooperation, coordination and integration aimed at expanding the scope and impact of such cultural action.

'Hidaya' institution will also provide support for new Muslims and gain society’s confidence.

Speaking on the occasion, Shaikh Abdulrahman bin Ahmed al Khalili, Chairman of the Foundation's Board of Directors, said that Hidaya Waqf Foundation is dedicated to supporting programmes and activities related to two significant aspects of utmost importance.

The first aspect is introducing the noble Islamic religion by highlighting its radiant truth and inherent essence to non-Muslim residents and visitors to this blessed land, as well as supporting new Muslims through various programmes, activities, and events such as the annual acquaintance event.

Shaikh Al Khalili further emphasised that the second aspect of the foundation is introducing Omani civilisation and showcasing its landmarks to the world by bridging scientific and cognitive relations with educational institutions, intellectual and cultural centres. The distinctive characteristics of Omani civilisation have made it a subject of interest for a wide range of researchers who continually seek to explore Oman and its intellectual and historical depth.

The historical and modern Omani political stances, characterised by standing for truth and supporting the oppressed, have greatly attracted the world's attention and efforts to understand them. Hence, it was imperative for every researcher about Oman to find what they seek, as Oman was never been closed from the world or isolated from its Islamic and Arab surroundings.

Shaikh Al Khalili stressed the importance of cooperation with educational and cultural institutions in this context, highlighting the pivotal role of the foundation in garnering global attention towards Omani civilisation. He emphasised the foundation's commitment to achieving its noble goals through sustainable financial resources and partnership with the community and institutions.

The ceremony also featured a visual presentation introducing the foundation and a speech by Dr Shaikh Kahlan bin Nahban al Kharousi, Assistant Grand Mufti, on the importance of supporting the foundation's programmes and activities.

Dr Al Kharousi stated that the purpose of this foundation, named after a Prophet's guidance, aims to showcase the bright aspects of the ancient and authentic civilisation of this country and the commendable religious commitment of its people. This cultural aspect that we aspire to showcase to people requires cooperation and partnership, especially concerning education, awareness, and highlighting the country's distinctive aspects.

Dr Al Kharousi emphasised the importance of collective cooperation as an embodiment of the values of the true religion and the pursuit of spreading goodness, truth, and guidance among people. He affirmed that the foundation focuses on implementing community programmes and activities aimed at directing minds and consciences towards knowledge and education through meaningful workshops and diverse educational courses.

He explained that these programmes target all those interested in learning about Islam in the Sultanate of Oman, understanding the history of Islam in the region, as well as familiarising themselves with the cultural aspects in which Omanis have contributed across various fields.
