Huge amounts of rainwater converge in Qoa Al Jouba in the Wilayat of Mahout in Al Wusta Governorate to form a great lake stretching as far as the eye can see in the heart of the desert.
Water pours down from hilltops through Wadi Halfeen which runs some 400 km to Al Wusta forming the lake whose water passes to the Arabian Sea. Wadi Halfeen overflew profusely after the heavy rains brought about by a deep depression that affected the Sultanate of Oman of late. As a result, water torrents converged into Qoa Al Jouba lake in a rare scene that occurs only in the event of extremely heavy downpours and torrential rain.
Wadi Halfeen is one of the Sultanate of Oman’s largest valleys in terms of area and length. The valley basin is approximately 3,000 sq km and runs through the wilayats of Al Jabal Al Akhdhar, Nizwa, Adam, Manah and parts of the wilayats of Izki and Bahla.
