Muscat: Al Yaarubah Mosque, which is located in the Shari'a area of Birkat Al Mouz in Al Dakhiliyah Governorate, is a prominent example of religious and architectural significance in Oman. It was built by Imam Sultan bin Saif al Yaarubi in 1649.
Over many years, the mosque has witnessed several expansions. It was expanded during the era of the Al Busaidy dynasty, by Mohammed bin Imam Ahmad bin Said al Busaidy in the early 13 th century. It also underwent restoration during the reign of late Sultan Qaboos bin Said in 1998.
True to the architectural style of interior Oman mosques, Al Yaarubah Mosque lacks the grand minarets, domes, and protruding mihrab typical of other mosques. Its exterior facade, constructed primarily of stone and sarooj, overlooks the Al Khutm Ain Falaj, embodying simplicity and grace.
The mosque has two wooden doors on its eastern side. The prayer hall comprises two galleries, each supported by cylindrical columns connected by arches. The mihrab, simple and unadorned, seamlessly integrates into the qibla wall without embellishments or inscriptions.
One of the distinguishing features of the mosque is its strategic location, connecting to the Al Khutm Ain Falaj, Wadi Al Ma'eedin, and Bayt Al Radeedah Fortress, making it an appealing destination for visitors.
