MUSCAT: Within Muscat Municipality’s preparations for the blessed month of Ramadhan, ensuring safety of the most commonly consumpted foods during the month as per the health requirements.


The work team in the Food and Laboratories Department of the General Directorate of Health Affairs stated that continuous campaigns will be organised throughout Ramadhan to ensure the extent to which food establishments fulfill the requirements for transporting, storing, preparing and displaying products and foodstuffs.


The inspection campaigns will include two campaigns focusing on food products that are frequently consumpted during Ramadhan as well as focussing on central markets, multi-activity stores, stores selling vegetables, fruits, and dates, stores selling coffee and nuts, activities selling meat and poultry, and stores selling various kinds of sweets.

This is to ensure compliance with health requirements during the storage, display and sale of consumpted foodstuffs as consumer shopping increases during Ramadhan.


During this period, there always much consumption of fried foods. The quality of used oils in foods frying will also be monitored. Additionally, there will be monitoring of places where food is stored and prepared, and cooking methods, preparing, preserving and transporting it.


Muscat Municipality confirms its concern for the consumers' safety and health and ensuring the quality and safety of food and products which are offered in local markets.


It calls on community members to report any notice regarding foods' quality and safety or products that are offered in markets and shops or food in restaurants.
