The National Committee for Emergency Situations Management has activated a system of broadcast messages about the weather conditions that will affect the Sultanate of Oman via smartphones.
Given the expected heavy rains and the potential impacts, the committee has begun activating the National Center for Emergency Situations Management and the sectors and subcommittees in the governorates expected to be affected, and raising the degree of readiness and preparedness to limit and mitigate the repercussions of the situation and respond to reports of potential damages. In this regard, the National Committee for Emergency Situations Management calls on everyone to take all necessary precautions to preserve the safety of lives and property, take information from official authorities, and follow their instructions.
Due to the heavy rain expected in the Sultanate of Oman; The Civil Defense and Ambulance Authority calls on everyone to follow safety instructions during rainfall and valley flows to preserve the safety of lives and property.
They have requested to turn off unnecessary electrical switches. Stay away from lampposts and beware of dangling wires and away from valley streams and low places.
The CDAA Has requested the public to follow weather forecasts from official sources.
Not just crossing but CDAA has requested everyone to stay away and avoid approaching the edges of wadis and highlands.
The safety experts have specifically asked people not to leave the house if they suffer from respiratory diseases such as asthma.
Special attention has to be given to children and the authorities have said, “Do not allow them to approach water bodies.”
As a protection from the striking of flashes of lightning, the CDAA has advised the public to avoid standing under trees, during rain.
The Royal Oman Police has requested the public to avoid driving in windy conditions.
“Avoid driving in windy conditions and unstable weather conditions except for emergencies,” they stated.
With Warnings and advice, motorists continued to challenge flowing wadis. Driving through a hail storm can also be tricky warned road safety experts.
The competent authorities, including the Civil Defense and Ambulance Authority (CDAA) and Royal Oman Police (ROP), have warned motorists who cross the wadis and low-lying areas.
“Intentionally crossing wadis that may risk your life and also the lives of the passengers is a crime punishable by imprisonment for three months and a fine of RO500.
The impact of the trough of low pressure was also seen in several road mishaps.
“Avoid using phones and electrical appliances. Follow weather forecasts from official sources. Stay away from electricity poles. Avoid touching metal objects. Avoid going to high places,” they stated.
