Muscat: The Civil Defense and Ambulance Authority (CDAA) in the Al Dakhiliyah Governorate has moved vehicles from the public parking lot in Nizwa Souq, secured low-lying areas, and advised citizens and residents on the necessity of following safety instructions during the rainy period.
Currently, there are thunderstorms in the Al Dakhiliyah Governorate, which will be extended to the Governorates of South al Batinah and Muscat, Al Buraimi and North Al Batinah Governorates.
Oman's Met Office on Friday issued a warning as heavy rain looms over several regions, spanning Musandam, Al Buraimi, North Al Batinah, Al Dhahirah, Al Dakhiliyah, South Al Batinah, Muscat, North Sharqiyah, and South Sharqiyah.
Commencing from Friday at noon and extending through Saturday till 11 pm, these areas are anticipated to experience thundershowers of varying intensity, ranging from 30-150 mm, with the potential for hailstorms.
The National Early Warning Center for Multiple Risks has underscored the likelihood of continuous rainfall across Friday, with projections indicating a surge in intensity come Saturday, particularly in the aforementioned governorates. This surge is expected to persist to varying degrees into Sunday.
The forecast highlights the following potential hazards:
* Heavy to extremely heavy rainfall (30-150 mm) may prompt flash flooding in wadis and watercourses.
* Strong downdraft winds (15-50 mph) could disperse loose materials.
* Intense hailfall poses risks of property and vehicle damage.
* Rough sea waves (2.0-4.0 meters) are expected along most coastlines.
The Civil Aviation Authority advised all residents to exercise caution during rainfall and flash flood situations. Meanwhile, The National Committee for Emergency Management in response to the anticipated weather conditions has activated the National Emergency Situations Management, along with sector-specific sub-committees in the affected governorates. This proactive approach aims to elevate preparedness levels and mitigate potential impacts.
