MUSCAT: The Oman Schools Sports Association (OSSA) in strategic coordination with Oman Football Association (OFA) launched school football tournament for girls on Sunday.
The event was under the auspices of Honourable Sanaa bint Abdulrahman al Khanjariyah, member of the State Council, in presence of Lujaina bint Mohsin bin Haider al Zaabiyah, a member of the OFA’s Board of Directors, along with representatives from the OSSA and OFA officials.
The draw of the league took place on Sunday and all the eight teams were distributed into two groups. The first group comprised from: Al Dhahirah, Al Buraimi, Ad Dakhiliyah and Muscat educational directorates while second group featured from Al Wusta, Al Batinah North, Al Batinah South, and Dhofar educational directorates. The two top teams in the group will advance to the quarter-finals.
As many as eight matches took place on Sunday for the opening round. All the games played in the football green field of the Technical Military College in Muscat. The second and third rounds matches will be held on Monday during the morning and evening sessions. The semi-finals will take place on Tuesday and the finals scheduled on Wednesday.
Lujaina bint Mohsin al Zaabiyah, Chairwoman of the Women's Sports Committee at OFA, “ The 2024 Girls' School Football League, is a crucial event that has produced through strategic collaboration between OSSA and OFA. This partnership is the result of careful effort to promote women's football sustainably, producing a skilled and well-established generation of female footballers. The Women's Committee is committed to provide all the requirements to ensure the continuity and competitive practice of women's football in the future, engaging them in various domestic and international competitions." She added
“OFA has spared no effort in elevating women's football since we assumed the committee's leadership. We have worked intensively to find supportive partners, and this partnership with OSSA, inaugurating the 2024 Girls' School Football League, is a testament to the Association’s commitment", she added.
"Our goal is to spread women's football across all educational directorates starting from youth levels and forming a talented girls' team. We aim to discover talents through this strategic cooperation with the various societal categories, aligning with Oman Vision 2040, a vision greatly valued by His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik, where the committee holds responsibilities in women's sports development, contributing to the growth of their creative abilities", she ended.
