Muscat: Oman national cricketer Sufyan Mehmood bagged the first ever hat-trick by an Omani national in the Oman Cricket’s D50 tournament when he achieved the feat against Darsait Titans.
The medium pacer helped his team Bausher Busters clinch the victory in the D50 Eliminator match at Oman Cricket Turf 1 at Oman Cricket Academy Stadium in Al Amerat on February 26.
Sufyan was in his last over of his spell without any wickets with Titans requiring 30 runs to win from one over. But in the first ball, the Busters captain bowled Ubaid Ullah who made a run-a-ball 17. Another yorker from Sufyan castled the defence of Nishad KS and last-man Kasun Bandara was trapped leg before as the national cricketer completed a famous hat-trick.
Sufyan had figures of 9.3-0-40-3 to wrap up the match for Busters by 29 runs. “It was a great feeling to take the hat-trick. Just a few days back, I hit 4 sixes in an over and now this is my first hat-trick so it feels special to make history,” Sufyan told Oman Observer.
“I am honoured to take the hat-trick which is a first by an Omani national in the Oman Cricket Premier division turf wickets.” “I would also like to thank Renaissance for supporting me to achieve my goals in cricket and my sponsors GA Sports, Friendi and StarGold,” he added.
Renaissance (Bausher Busters) were runners-up in this season’s D10 and D20 while they ended semifinalists in the D50 as they lost to Ruwi Rangers in the second Eliminator of the tournament.
