Students benefit from Globe Programme

Over 100 regular students, in addition to 60 teachers and supervisors of the National Forum for Education (GLOBE) benefited from the activities which were held under the auspices of Dr Jokha bint Abdullah al Shukailiyah, CEO of the Omani Authority for Academic Accreditation and Educational Quality Assurance (OAAAEQA) at Avaani Hotel on Tuesday.


The event marked the participation of the children and teachers from various directorates affiliated with the education and learning sector of the governorates of the Sultanate, whose work will continue over the long term, also witnessed young teams bringing about ideas that will add value to the science of tomorrow.


The Hajj School for Basic Education from Al Wusta Governorate won first place for its study of the effect of marine organisms’ scales on water filtration in the Al Hajj area in the Wilayat of Mahut, Al Wusta Governorate.


The second place went to Al Hawari bin Muhammad al Azdi School for Basic Education for a study on the effect of garlic in treating harmful bacteria in gray water in the North Al Sharqiyah Governorate.


The third place went to Al Zahraa School for Basic Education in the Muscat Governorate for a study on the effect of fertilising the mesquite maritime plant on the growth of tomato and basil seedlings and soil characteristics in Muscat.


Al Wafa School for Basic Education from North Al Batinah Governorate won fourth place for a research project on the sustainability of soil and water management using graphene oxide nanoparticles. The fifth and final place went to Al Khawarizmi School for Basic Education for their project analyzing the growth factors of the Arjoun fungus in the Kohl area and its lack of growth in the Al Khadra area in Al Buraimi Governorate.


The national forum aimed at enhancing the capabilities of supervisors, teachers, and students in applying the programme’s protocols, which are atmosphere protocol, water protocol, soil protocol, civil aviation, humidity, land cover protocol, in addition to training them on how to data entry after applying the protocols on the programme’s global website.


The forum also included evaluating student research works participating in the annual student research competition of the Globe programme related to the environmental field, in preparing the students for the competitions at international levels.


GLOBE was established in 1994 as an educational programme supervised by Nasa, aimed at studying issues related to the global environment. It aims to study issues related to the global environment. The Sultanate of Oman’s participation in this programme came under a MoU for environmental cooperation signed in December 2009 through the GLOBE programme between the Sultanate of Oman, represented by the Ministry of Education and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (Nasa).
