SUHAR: The Ministry of Housing and Urban Planning (MoHUP) announced its plans for establishing a smart city in Suhar on Monday at the Suhar Investment Forum.
According to a ministry official, the city will be 6,240,000 sqm and will include 15 neighbourhoods, two central parks, a museum, a university, an exhibition centre and a sports centre.
The city will be located near Sohar Airport and 30 minutes from the Port of Sohar. Additionally, it is also situated close to the main roads and the expressway.
According to officials, the city will adopt 'the 5-minute city' concept — meaning that residents will be able to reach facilities within a 5-minute walk.
Furthermore, the city will also implement a grid design similar to the city of Barcelona. Moreover, it will also contain around 1,000 gardens and multiple urban blocks.
The city expects to house a population of approximately 70,162 and will include 15,340 housing units, the majority of which (66 per cent) will be apartments, townhouses (24 per cent) and villas (10 per cent), in addition to 4,200 student accommodation units.
