Muscat: The 10th Oman HRD Conference began yesterday with business expert Dave Ulrich, the Rensis Likert Professor at the Ross School of Business, University of Michigan, as the keynote speaker on "The Value of Values: Shaping the Future of Work through Human Capability" at the Grand Millennium Muscat. This highly anticipated event brought together business leaders, HR professionals, and industry experts to explore the critical role of values in driving organisational success and shaping the future of work.
The 2-day conference, organised by the Ministry of Labour with Al Assayel for Conferences Co, include six sessions on the first day and five sessions on the second day.
In his thought-provoking presentation, Dave Ulrich emphasised the importance of instilling strong values within organisations to enhance human capability and drive sustainable growth. He highlighted new competition realities creating value for all stakeholders through human capability. He also discussed the importance of recognising new disruptors in businesses like Artificial Intelligence (AI), uncertainties and new demographics.
Ulrich's insights resonated with the audience as he delved into the transformative power of identifying ten trends and practices in creating a talent advantage, posing the assumptions between “Our people are our most important asset” and “Our people are our customer’s most important asset.”
He emphasised that talent acquisition is the most important pathway a company should focus on, followed by creating a positive employee experience.
Ulrich's address also shed light organisation culture elaborating on the importance of intellectual agenda, behavioural agenda and process agenda.
He gave importance on the leadership skill for the future emphasising the need for HR leaders to attend to mental health and well-being of their talents.
The event provided a platform for attendees to engage with Ulrich's research and practical strategies for integrating values into their organisations.
Participants actively participated in interactive discussions, sharing their experiences and best practices for aligning values with business objectives and creating a culture of excellence.
Meanwhile, Mohammed bin Issa al Fayrouz, Chairman of Al Assayel, underscored the imperative of investing in human capabilities to navigate disruptive changes in the global business sphere and propel growth and development. Highlighting the pivotal role of adept employees and visionary leaders in steering organizations through a world characterised by accelerated technological and economic transformations, Al Fayrouz stressed the correlation between workforce enhancement and organizational success in the present era.
Echoing these sentiments, Ashraf bin Hamad al Maamari, Acting CEO of OQ Group, expounded on the group's endeavours to fortify leadership competencies and skill sets essential for spearheading innovation and progress within corporate entities and industries.
