Muscat: On the occasion of Pakistan’s National Day, Pakistan Embassy held an event to honour 60 women from different countries and walks of life under the auspices of Her Highness Sayyidah Hujaija bint Jaifer al Said Chairperson of the Association for Children with Disabilities.
The awardees were predominantly from Pakistan who are working in Oman and contributing in their own unique way, in addition to women from Oman, India, Philippines and England.
Speaking to the Observer, Imran Ali, Ambassador, said, "The initiative began with an intention to showcase the talent of Pakistani ladies in workforce, Omani women in different career path, in addition to ladies from India, Philippines and Britain — all who have made a difference by contributing to the Omani Society. Most of the ladies who had been honoured, have been working at least for more than a decade."
In regards to empowerment of women, the ambassador said, “I think women need to be empowered inside and outside the house. Most importantly they deserve appreciation in professional excellence as much as men because you can see the lack of it as last year the Pakistan Women cricket team was the champions in Oman.”
Amongst the awardees were achievers in spots, social workers, doctors, pilots, care givers, educators, entrepreneurs, business women, teachers and researchers.
“The people are not often applauded. There is often an argument that says they are doing their job, but the difference is some do the 9 to 5 job, while others perform their job to give relief to humans, where they go beyond their call of duty,” he explained.
