Muscat: The 'Oman Conference on Environmental Sustainability' started at the Oman Convention and Exhibition Center, with a focus on environmental, research, and scientific fields related to carbon neutrality, under the patronage of His Highness the Deputy Prime Minister for International Relations and Cooperation and the Special Representative of His Majesty the Sultan.
His Highness Sayyid Asaad also launched the “Naqi” platform, which is a national platform to monitor air quality.
Dr Abdullah al Amri, Chairman of the Environment Authority, said, "The Sultanate of Oman has launched a series of renewable projects to ensure that 39 percent of the total energy is produced from clean energy in 2040."
He said the Oman Blue Carbon Project aims to plant 100 million mangrove trees to absorb 14 million tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent, and the first update of the second report of the Nationally Determined Contribution received great global and scientific praise.
