Muscat: The 28th edition of the Muscat International Book Fair has become a cultural nexus, drawing participation from various government entities keen to exhibit their most recent publications. The event, renowned for its rich tapestry of literary and cultural offerings, is witnessing an unprecedented showcase of Omani cultural heritage, tourism, and scientific achievements.
The Ministry of Heritage and Tourism, marking its second consecutive year of participation, is presenting an impressive collection of 38 publications. This array includes six new releases, online tourist guides, four specialized tourism promotional brochures, and an assortment of tourist publications, cards, and posters. These materials are aimed at promoting Omani cultural heritage and attracting tourists to the country’s diverse attractions.
Highlighting the Ministry’s contributions, a notable publication titled “The Natural Heritage of Musandam Governorate” by Saif Al Hatmi stands out among the scientific literature being offered. This book is part of the Ministry's efforts to document and share the rich biodiversity and unique ecological aspects of the Musandam region.
Further enriching the fair's offerings, the Ministry has introduced two new scientific publications in English, as part of the Omani Archaeological Heritage Series. These publications, produced in collaboration with the Archaeological House in Oxford, aim to bring Oman’s archaeological treasures to an international audience, showcasing the depth and diversity of the country’s ancient history.
The National Museum of Oman further complements the cultural showcase with a special corner dedicated to the evolution of writing and blogging, illustrated through archaeological artifacts. Among the exhibits are seals dating back to 2200 BC, bearing alphabet-like inscriptions, which provide insights into early forms of communication. A Victorian-style pencil, once belonging to the late His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said, is also on display, symbolizing the historical progression of writing instruments.
