Sayyid Badr holds key meetings with regional, international leaders

MUNICH: Sayyid Badr bin Hamad al Busaidy, Foreign Minister, on Saturday met with Shaikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim al Thani, Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the State of Qatar on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference (MSC) which began on Friday in Munich, Federal Republic of Germany.


The two sides stressed the depth of the strong fraternal relations between the two brotherly countries and the joint keenness to foster cooperation and coordination in various fields for mutual benefits.



The two ministers discussed the events currently unfolding in Gaza and the military escalation taking place in the region, expressing their support to the Palestinian people and their right to freedom and to live in peace and dignity.


Sayyid Badr bin Hamad al Busaidy, Foreign Minister also met with Hanke Bruins, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, with whom he discussed bilateral relations and mutual cooperation expressing their keenness to continue developing them and exchanging experiences and investing in various sectors to achieve more common gains.



They also discussed the regional developments in both the Middle East and Europe, stressing their support for the efforts aimed to reach a ceasefire, address the catastrophic humanitarian conditions, resort to international law, and purposeful and constructive dialogue to achieve security and peace underscoring the necessity of establishing an autonomous Palestinian state based on the two-state solution.


The foreign minister also met with Mariya Gabriel, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Bulgaria. They discussed bilateral relations and cooperation between the two friendly countries and ways to bolster them. They also touched on the current situation in the region, stressing the importance of finding an urgent and lasting solution to the Palestinian cause.



The meetings were attended by several officials from both sides.


Meanwhile, Sayyid Badr bin Hamad al Busaidy also met with Luminica Odobescu, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Romania on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference (MSC) which began on Friday in Munich, Federal Republic of Germany.


During the meeting, the two sides stressed their joint desire to bolster bilateral relations and cooperation underscoring the importance of dialogue as a way to achieve mutual understanding and security and stability through the effective application of the rules of international law and justice for all while attaching top priority at this stage to addressing the humanitarian catastrophe in the Gaza Strip through an immediate ceasefire and the delivery of urgent aid and relief materials.



The Foreign Minister also met with a number of senior members of The Elders group in the presence of Ban Ki-moon, former Secretary-General of the United Nations, Juan Santos, former President of Colombia, Gro Brundtland, former Director-General of the World Health Organization and Mary Robinson, former President of Ireland and former United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights.


A number of issues were discussed and opinions exchanged During the meeting with a special focus on the components of decisive peacemaking based on the recognition of the Palestinian state and the imposition of the two-state solution on the international agenda to fulfill the will of the international community and to establish justice and the rules of security and stability for all parties. - ONA
