MUSCAT, FEB 13
A first-ever Aluminum Recycling forum opens today, February 14, at JW Marritt Hotel, Muscat, under the patronage of Dr Abdullah bin Ali al Amri, Chairman of Environment Authority.
The one-day event, hosted by Sohar Aluminum and endorsed by the Environment Authority, aims to “explore the latest trends, challenges and business opportunities” in aluminium recycling.
In a statement, the Chief Executive Officer of Sohar Aluminium Company LLC, Eng Said bin Mohammed al Masoudi, highlighted the significance of the forum. “The Forum is aimed at bringing together aluminium industry players in Oman along with the regulatory authority for environment and discussing aluminium scrap recycling. Further, it seeks to establish a baseline for waste from aluminium in Oman and find synergies between the industry players to maximise in-country aluminium recycling and promoting circular economy,” he said.
The event will include presentations, discussions and keynote speeches from key industry players, including the International Aluminium Institute. Key participants in the forum will include government institutions, waste management companies, private companies and aluminium recyclers.
The forum is part of the company’s efforts in achieving net-zero neutrality. Last year, the company joined the SOHAR Net Zero Alliance, a collaborative initiative by Sohar Port and Freezone (SOHAR) to accelerate the country’s goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2050. It is worth noting that the industrial sector is the highest carbon emitting sector in the country - accounting for 32 per cent of total emissions.
