MUSCAT: The Oman Camel Racing Federation (OCRF) officially inaugurated its annual camel racing competition on Monday morning at the Falaj racetrack in Barka. The event witnessed participation from various governorates and regions across Oman, showcasing the country's rich tradition of camel racing.
The OCRF allocated valuable prizes for the winners, with participants competing in 69 rounds for all camel categories over four days.
On the first day, competitions were held in both the morning and evening sessions.
The morning session witnessed 20 rounds dedicated to the ‘Hagayeg’ category over a distance of 4 km. Cash prizes were awarded and the results were as follows. In the initial round, 'Duwamah', owned by Abdullah al Jahafi, secured the top spot.
In the second round ‘Mahma' came first, owned by Salem al Jahafi. In the third round ‘Haylatik’ owned by Mohammed al Wahibi bagged the top place. In the fourth round, ‘Mudhiar’ owned by Rashid al Draai was the winner.
The fifth round was snatched by ‘Khawarah’ owned by Ahmed al Jahafi. The sixth round was won by ‘Marmouq’, owned by Ghasi al Mashaikhi. ‘Inthar’ owned by Badr al Maskari came top in the seventh round. In the eighth round, victory was claimed by 'Ghazalah', owned by Saeed al Wahibi. The ninth round saw 'Shahin', owned by Sultan al Jahafi, taking the lead.
In the 10th round, 'Tawa', owned by Yasser al Wahibi, secured the top spot. In the 11th round, 'Shuahin', owned by Amer al Omari, emerged as the winner. The 12th round witnessed 'Al Waei', owned by Amar al Wahibi, clinching the first place. The 13th round was dominated by 'Mahra', owned by Mohammed al Wahibi. The 14th round saw 'Salhouda', owned by Mohammed al Wahibi, taking the lead. The 15th round was claimed by 'Jalad', owned by Matar al Wahibi. The 16th round witnessed 'Mashouqah', owned by Nasser al Zarai, securing the top spot. In the 17th round, the victory went to 'Al Dabi', owned by Alsager al Zarai. The 18th round featured 'Hatash', owned by Mukhlid al Maliki, as the winner.
The 19th round saw 'Intisar', owned by the Alsager al Zarai, claiming the first position. Finally, in the 20th round, 'Mosub', owned by Salem al Habsi, emerged victorious.
The evening session witnessed 10 rounds dedicated to the ‘Hagayeg’ category over a distance of 4 km. Ten cars and three trophies were awarded. In the first round, Shuwaheen for Royal Camels Corps trained by Abdullah al Rashidi claimed the top position and received a trophy and a car. In the second round, Mawari, owned by Hamad al Maliki, claimed the first position and received a trophy and a car. In the third round, Walim came first owned by Jassim al Maharibi, obtaining a trophy and a car.
