With the support from the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority (SMEDA), four Omani craft institutions participated in the craft industries exhibition at the Sultan Qaboos Cultural Centre in Washington, USA that aims to emphasise civilisational and cultural heritage and to enhance the value of the Omani creative craft industries.
Among the participating companies is ‘Saffah’ for palm-frond products, which is an institution specialising in the manufacture and sale of developed palm-frond products, as it is distinguished by manufacturing them according to the customer’s desire in terms of design and sizes, in addition to providing ready-made products.
There is also Al Hosn Perfumes Establishment which is an institution that aims to preserve the Omani perfume culture, as it has introduced traditional Omani essential oils such as frankincense and myrrh oil into its products, which adds a unique touch to its perfumes and other products.
Also, Al Hosani Omani Sweets Factory, which is famous for manufacturing Omani sweets, that had several branches inside and outside the Sultanate of Oman, and the International Crafts House for craft products, which is an Omani craft institution specialised in marketing and promoting craft products, as it deals with more than 800 craftsmen and productive families in the Sultanate of Oman.
“We are proud of the participation of the SMEDA and four of the most prominent craft institutions in the Sultanate of Oman in the Crafts Exhibition at the Sultan Qaboos Cultural Centre in Washington, and this participation reflects our commitment to highlighting our Omani craft institutions and enhancing the Omani cultural identity on the international stage. We believe that this opportunity will open new horizons for cultural and economic exchange, and will contribute to highlighting the creative craft institutions and crafts that are unique to the Sultanate of Oman,” said Al Yaqdhan al Rawahi, Assistant Director of the Department of Craft Industries.
The Sultan Qaboos Cultural Centre in Washington is a prestigious cultural centre that promotes cultural exchange between the Sultanate of Oman and the United States. The crafts exhibition held by the centre provides an ideal platform for displaying Omani arts and crafts to the international public. The centre strengthens its roles in disseminating Omani cultural elements and strengthening the bonds of friendship and understanding between peoples through the numerous programmes, activities and events that it implements throughout the year.
SMEDA continues its efforts to develop Omani craft industries by introducing modern technologies and innovative machines into craft production, providing many training programmes for Omani craftsmen in the field of 3D design, digital manufacturing, and enhancing the participation of Omani craft institutions in regional and global exhibitions and events to ensure their expansion and its sustainability and to advance Omani crafts and highlight Omani craftsmen and their creative craft products.
