Muscat: The number of Omani children aged between 0 to 17 is expected to touch 1.5 million children in 2040, while the number of Omani women is expected to reach 2 million and 62,045 (20,62,045), according to a statistics report released by the National Center for Statistics and Information (NCSI) in its latest edition.
The report also revealed that the number of elderly people is expected to reach 376,716 in the next 16 years.
According to past data analysis, the total number of children in the Sultanate of Oman in 2022 reached 1.4 million, of whom Omanis constituted about 87 percent, with a total of 1.2 million children, while the gender ratio among Omani children reached 104 males for every 100 females.
The largest percentage of Omani children were in the age group from 5 to 9 years, at 33 percent, followed by the age group from 0 to 4 years, at 30 percent, then from 10 to 14 years, at 25 percent, while the percentage for the age group from 15 to 17 years was 12 percent.
Health indicators show that the life expectancy at birth for children in the Sultanate of Oman in 2022 reached 77 years, while the crude Omani birth rate per 1,000 population in 2022 was 24.9 compared to 27.3 in 2021, while the child mortality rate for Omanis under 5 years old reached 11.5 per 1,000. Live births in 2022 compared to 10.1 in 2021.
Immunization rates for children under one year of age also recorded a high rate, reaching 100 percent for tuberculosis, 99.9 percent for Ebola bacterium, 99 percent for hepatitis and Haemophilus influenzae, and 98.6 percent for oral paralysis.
The total number of Omani children enrolled in nurseries in 2022 was about 6,456, an increase of about 24 percent compared to the previous year. The rate of early marriages (15-17 years) was 1.4 per 1,000 children in 2022, decreasing by about 36 percent compared to the previous year.
Regarding economic indicators, the total number of Omani children who owned businesses in 2022 was about 2,181 children, more than a quarter of whom were concentrated in the construction sector, while the total number of Omani children who owned one or more pieces of land reached 14,551 children.
The report further suggests that regarding social protection indicators, the total number of children (5-19 years) included in the social security system reached 35.8 thousand children, representing 27 percent of the total social security beneficiaries, while the total number of orphan children benefiting from social security reached two thousand and 550 children.
About the women’s category, the total number of females in 2022 reached about one million, 871,218 females, of whom Omani women constituted about 76 percent, with a total number of one million, 423,765 females, of whom the young group (age group 18 to 29 years) constituted 19 percent of the total Omani women.
The total fertility rate for Omani females (aged 15 to 49 years) in 2022 was about 3.2 births per woman, compared to 3.4 births per woman in the previous year, and 29 percent of live births in 2022 are to mothers in the age group (from 30 to 34 years). ), and 100 percent of the total births were under specialized medical supervision, as the Omani maternal mortality rate decreased significantly to reach 15.7 per 100,000 live births in 2022, compared to 42.5 per 1,000 live births in the previous year.
