MUSCAT: Assigned by His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik, His Highness Sayyid Taimur bin Asaad al Said will preside over the Annual Horse Race of Royal Cavalry on Monday in the Wilayat of Ibri in Al Dhahirah Governorate organised by the Royal Court Affairs and represented by the Royal Cavalry.
The race, which will feature five rounds for purebred Arabian horses will commences with the “Hisn Al Maamour Race” for female Royal Cavalry riders and for a distance of 1,200 metres. The second round will be under title of “Hisn Al Muneikh Race” for a distance of 1,200 metres while the third round will be the “Hisn Al Iraqi Race” for a distance of 1,600 metres. The fourth round will be the “Hosn Beit Al Marah Race” for the highest-ranked national horses in the 2023-2024 horse racing season for a distance of 1,600 metres while the horse riders will compete in the fifth round, the “Hosn Ibri Race”, for a distance of 2,000 metres for the Cup of His Majesty the Sultan.
The race will be interspersed with several equestrian display segments, presented by the Sultanate of Oman's knights and horsewomen. These displays will showcase skills in horsemanship, including the art of handling reins, as well as the presentation of some Omani arts associated with horses, such as the art of equestrian display, hambal, and tahareeb, will be presented.
Eng Hilal bin Mohammed al Waili Head of Horses, Camels, Farms, and Royal Gardens Affairs at the Royal Court Affairs, expressed that holding the annual horse race for the Royal Cavalry comes as an affirmation of the supreme keenness of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik to support horse sports and their owners. Al Waili added It is considered one of the civilisational and cultural legacies of the Sultanate of Oman and enjoys great passion and interest from citizens.
Al Waili added that the Royal Cavalry has meticulously prepared for the event, taking place at Seih Al Masarat Square in the Wilayat of Ibri. He extended best wishes for success to all participants in the race, hoping they achieve the honour of being crowned with the Cup of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik.
