MUSCAT: The 111 Fine Art Exhibition opened at Sablat Rouzana hall in the Airport Heights under the auspices of Sayyid Said bin Sultan al Busaidy, Under-secretary of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth for Culture, recently.
The opening ceremony began with a visual presentation of the event which coincided with the Sultanate of Oman’s celebrations of the anniversary of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik’s accession to the throne. The presentation was lauded by the audience and was distinguished by feelings of loyalty and patriotism to the Sultanate of Oman and His Majesty the Sultan.
Following the opening ceremony, the chief guest along with the attendees toured the exhibition which contained over 90 artworks by twenty-five artists from the founding generation of the Omani fine art movement who appeared in the 1970s as well as the subsequent generations representing various artistic trends and schools.
The following artists took part in the exhibition: Anwar Sonia, Mohammad al Sayegh, Maryam al Zadjaliyah, Hussein Obaid, Hussein al Hajri, Saud al Hunaini, Hassan Mir, Abdullah al Hunaini, Khamis al Hunaini, Abdel Nasser al Sayegh, Mohammad Fadel, Mohammad Mahdi, Idris al Hooti, Said al Alawi, Alia al Farsiyah, Abdul Karim al Maimani, Naila al Maamariyah, Hafsa al Tamimiya, Abdul Rahim al Hooti, Samia al Gharibiya, Juma al Harithi and Sami al Siyabi. Artworks by the late artists: Ayoub Malang, Mohammad Nizam, and Musa Omar, were also on display.
Mr. Saeed bin Sultan Al Busaidi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth for Culture, expressed his happiness at sponsoring the exhibition, which expresses everyone’s joy in the homeland and the renewed renaissance, and the launching ceremony of the book (The Contemporary Omani Plastic Achievement), which closely documents the journey of the Omani plastic movement. He said: This exhibition comes as a culmination of what The march of fine art over the past decades was embodied by the generation of founders who contributed to laying the first building blocks for Omani fine art, and in confirmation of the status of fine art in all its forms and directions in the Sultanate of Oman.
Sayyid Said bin Sultan al Busaidy, Under-secretary of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth for Culture, expressed his happiness for presiding over the exhibition which, he said, embodies the march of fine art over the past five decades by the founding generations of fine art who laid the foundation of the fine art movement in the Sultanate of Oman.
A book entitled Achievements of Contemporary Omani Fine Art, which closely documents the journey of the Omani fine art movement, was released during the event.
