The Ministry of Heritage and Tourism shared an increase in tourism indicators in the Sultanate of Oman, considering tourism as one of the main sectors in the Oman National Vision 2040, which is relied upon to diversify sources of income, provide job opportunities, enhance local content, and employ sustainability policies.
Tourism indicators in the Sultanate of Oman witnessed an increase during the period from January to November 2023 compared to the same period last year, as the number of visitors coming to the country reached 3.5 million visitors, an increase of 39 per cent.
According to the source from the National Centre for Statistics and Information, the number of hotel guests reached about one million and 884 thousand guests out of the total number of hotel guests with a classification of 3-5 stars during the period from January to November 2023, an increase of 40 per cent compared to the same period in 2022.
RO 204.187 million was the total hotel revenues from the same period which is an increase of 27 per cent. The occupancy rate of hotels with a classification of 3-5 stars reached 61.2 per cent.
Many tourist sites witnessed a noticeable increase in the number of visitors, the most important of which is the Ras Al Jinz Turtle Reserve, where the number of visitors increased by 21.6 per cent, and in Al Jabal Al Akhdhar the number increased by 53.7 per cent compared to the same month last year.
The Ministry of Heritage and Tourism works to stimulate tourism by enhancing the position of the Sultanate of Oman in foreign tourism markets by participating in the most prominent tourism events and activities held in various countries, whether in exhibitions, workshops, forums, or forums related to the tourism aspect.
The Sultanate of Oman aims to increase the contribution of the tourism sector to the gross domestic product to 3.5 per cent by 2030. The Sultanate of Oman is working on many opportunities, including entertainment and attraction areas, as well as adventure tourism, which is gaining growing momentum, and recreational and marine tourism, and the stakeholders concerned with tourism continue by establishing new relationships and connections with holiday providers from emerging markets as well as strong investments.
There is also an increased focus on digital platforms to support reservations for the holiday sector, as well as the cruise ship sector, which is seeing continuous growth and the resulting related opportunities through cruise ship visitors taking tourist tours, which supports the sector’s partners.
