'YOUR RIGHTS ARE PROTECTED'

Consumer Protection Authority (CPA) launched the 'Your Rights Are Protected' campaign coinciding with the launch of the social protection system within the framework of multiple community initiatives adopted to serve the community.

The campaign, organised by CPA in all governorates of the Sultanate of Oman, in cooperation with the Social Protection Fund, is aimed at creating awareness to ensure the smooth flow of purchasing, avoid wrong commercial practices, combine the concept of social responsibility, and enhance the partnership between the consumer and the supplier.

Salim bin Ali al Hakmani, Chairman of the Consumer Protection Authority, said that the campaign aims to create a balanced market to achieve the common interests of the consumer and the supplier alike and that distributing the benefit to groups entitled to social protection according to the directives of his Majesty will pump more cash liquidity in all aspects of life.

Dr Khalid bin Ali al Alawi, General Director of the CPA for the North Al Batinah Governorate, said: “The mechanisms for implementing this campaign are divided into two sections: supervisory and awareness."

'YOUR RIGHTS ARE PROTECTED'

"As for the supervisory section, it was implemented last December 2023 by monitoring and surveying the prices of goods and services, building a database, and direct meetings with suppliers and merchants. As for awareness, which began immediately after the launch of the campaign that it includes many events and activities, such as lectures, awareness campaigns, exhibitions, broadcasting awareness messages through social media platforms, and other activities," he added.

In the same context, Al Alawi said that the target groups of this campaign are all suppliers, merchants and consumers, especially the groups that came under the social protection system: the elderly, children and widows, as well as people with disabilities.

In addition, to strengthening their societal responsibility to maintain a stable market, and introducing intensive awareness and oversight activities. This will be implemented during the campaign, that will include presenting a number of programmes and activities, such as awareness lectures for consumers, in addition to various awareness and informational messages through social media networks and other means.

'Your Rights are Protected' campaign came in line with the government’s approach to creating a climate of cooperation and joint integration between all sectors in accordance with Oman Vision 2040.

The social protection system is an important pillar for any society that aims to ensure the well-being and security of its citizens and includes a wide range of policies, programs and initiatives designed to protect individuals and communities from various risks and vulnerabilities.

By issuing the Social Protection Law, Oman began a new phase under the umbrella of structuring retirement systems, reforming social protection systems, and merging the institutions based on them simultaneously and in record time.
